Pol MARA (1920-1998) - Lot 34
Pol MARA (1920-1998) Window projection, 1972. Mixed media acetate, silkscreen mounted on aluminum. Signed and dated lower left. 72x52cm (58cm with the foot) Note : Pol Mara introduces in Belgium a personal vision of the American Popart (Andy Warhol), by clearly affirming the figuration in his works. His favourite themes are advertising, cinema, sport, newspapers, illustrated magazines, photography, horses, speed, sex appeal, pin-ups and cover girls. Although he was inspired by pop art, he nevertheless deviated strongly from this trend thanks to a representation, an atmosphere and a climate that are personal to him. He distinguishes himself by using an attractive, charming and particularly refined rendering of line and colour, with photographic precision. Pol Mara attended evening classes at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and studied part-time from 1941 to 1948 at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
