Canova (entourage de)
Bust of Napoleon I produced on the model of Canova during the Second Empire. While the official bust was produced by Chaudet, during the First Empire Canova produced representations of the Emperor Napoleon from his workshop in Possagno, which he sent throughout the Empire. Benefiting from the protection of Pauline Bonaparte, Canova established himself as one of the principal artists of the Napoleonic period. The indication France on the bust refers to a post-mortem work done in France during the Second Empire. Porcelain and marble base. 19 x 9x 8,5. Very good condition. Signature of Sèvre, France.
