Shomali graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa in 2004 and the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg in 2008. The artist recognises a part of social responsibility in his art: "Art is like a very tight fit jacket and I don't know how to put it on. I always have an inner fear of not being able to fulfil collective fears that only art can soothe".
The treatment of light and shadow conveys the idea that the characters are not inert but rather are present, moving and full of life. Shomali is one of the promising actors of Congolese contemporary art.
