Claude GALLE (1759-1815), attribué à - France, Epoque Premier Empire Exceptional pair of torches in the form of amphora vases flanked by two horsehead handles and topped by a spigot concealed in the finely chased neck with floral honeycomb motifs. In gilded bronze, they are adorned on the body with Etruscan bacchantes brandishing drinking cups (Tazza) and various friezes of rais-de-coeur and laurel leaves. Standing on a laurelled shower foot on a square sea-green marble base adorned with Diana heads and a gilded bronze counter-base on four ball feet. H. 50.35 cm. A pair of identical vases attributed to Claude Galle but in less good gilded condition was sold at Christie's in 2011 (Sale at the Palais abbatial de Royaumont 19>21/09/2011 - lot 350). Gilding to be cleaned.
