Miniature depicting the Duke of Wellington, holder of the Order of the Golden Fleece, oil on board, 8 x 6cm. Wax stamp on back. In 1827, Arthur Wellington was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the army (a position he held until his death in 1852, except during his term as Prime Minister). He became Prime Minister the following year, in 1828. A member of the Tory party, he was conservative in his decision-making.
