Neapolitan gouache - Lot 5
Neapolitan gouache View of the entrance to the gardens of the Villa Reale at Posillipo animated by horse-drawn carriages and townspeople, Bay of Naples, Neapolitan gouache, drawing on paper, +-16 x 25cm (unframed). Note: In the 18th century, the almost continuous eruptive activity of Vesuvius overlooking Naples went hand in hand with the rediscovery of Herculaneum and Pompeii. The publication of William Hamilton's famous Campi Phlaegri created a craze, and led to the production by local painters of "Neapolitan gouaches".
