Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) - Lot 156
Miguel BERROCAL (1933-2006) Siextasis, 1976, Puzzle Variation on the theme of Hommage à Picasso, sculpture, 180/2000, bronze, with booklet. Beam-shaped base in IPN profile, blued steel (with black steel finish) and polished brass support element. Note from the "Fundación Escultor Berrocal" foundation: SIEXTASIS, an original creation by BERROCAL, evokes the genius of PICASSO, already celebrated by the monumental sculpture "HOMMAGE A PICASSO", which was commissioned by the city of Malaga on the occasion of his 90th birthday, and first exhibited in Paris at the Champs-Elysées traffic circle in 1976. "A reclining woman with a heart-shaped face, the sculpture's compact central core, to which the cylindrical volumes surrounding her anthropomorphic form lead. These volumes or logarithmic curves grow directly from the Spanish soil, like roots. They draw the sap of inspiration from the soil and carry it to the heart. But the heart face is actually a broken heart, formed by a double profile, that of an embracing couple, a symbol dear to PICASSO and frequent in his work." This is how BERROCAL describes the "HOMAGE TO PICASSO". SIEXTASIS, in the same formal terms, translates the same inspiration into an individual, everyday setting. BERROCAL's creative wealth is concentrated here in a luxurious interlacing of bronze, each sculpted piece a work of art in its own right, and joined together to form this mysterious golden symphony, a poetic evocation of Spanish culture and land. PICASSO-BERROCAL, two names united by creation in this work symbolizing eternal Spain.
