ILES FIDJI (PACIFIQUE SUD) - Lot 264
ILES FIDJI (PACIFIQUE SUD)
Club Sali (Cali), wooden club carved with finely chiseled geometric decorations, +-101cm.
Note: Specific to the Fiji archipelago, the Sali club is one of the iconic weapons of the Polynesian corpus. Although it was called a "rifle butt" when first discovered by Europeans, its iconography is actually inspired by the shape of an open-mouthed snake. Ceremonial objects as much as prestigious weapons, these pieces bear witness to remarkable care and attention to detail.
