Frédéric BOUCHERON (1830-1902) - Lot 10
Frédéric BOUCHERON (1830-1902) The baluster-shaped coffee pot rests on a round base with two sides, finely pierced with friezes of leaves and flowers, four main lotus flowers. The body is adorned with applique floral decoration of the same inspiration. Handle and long spout decorated with twists and foliage. Small pagoda lid with twisted gadroons. French work, signed Fic BOUCHERON, CG hallmark, marked "1866 28 juin 1891", one blow to the belly. +- 1,350 kg. H +- 23cm Note: Frédéric BOUCHERON, the first jeweler on the Place Vendôme, created this Moorish-inspired coffee pot, which illustrates the vogue for "Turkish-style" decoration that was revived by the colonial exhibitions and the opening of the Suez Canal with great fanfare at the end of Napoleon III's reign. Ref: Vever Henri, Histoire de la bijouterie française, Éditions Floury, Paris 1906. Neret Gilles, Boucheron, Éditions Decitre, Paris 1998. Page 47 for a sumptuous pourer in a design by Paul Legrand for the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition. An identical coffee pot was sold at Tajan in Paris on June 27, 2024.
