ROGER GUERIN (1896-1954) - Lot 280

Note: Roger Guérin is a great name in Belgian Art Deco ceramics. Most of his work consists of ball vases, geometric or faceted vases and sculptures. His preferred material is stoneware with a high-fire salt glaze. Guérin's works offer "charm and simplicity" and document the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco: the initially slender, flowing bodies of his vessels become stocky, geometrically contoured volumes in the 1920s. Later, Christ on the Cross reveals stylistic forms inspired by Cubism.
International recognition follows his presence at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris in 1925. Several of his works were acquired by King Albert and can be found in Belgian, Dutch, Italian and American museums.
