Ethiopia / Italy - Lot 138
Ethiopia / Italy
Set of 3 plates from the palace of Haile Selassie, former Emperor of Ethiopia, "Circolo Imperiale" Richard Ginori, poor condition.
Note: Regent and Crown Prince of Ethiopia during the reign of Empress Zewditou, whom he succeeded in 1930, Haile Selassie I had to face the Italian invasion and occupation of his country between 1935 and 1941. He never recognized the legitimacy of this annexation, considering that he was still reigning during this period, denying the Italian colonial administration. He regained the throne when his country was liberated in 1941, thanks to the Second World War and the resistance. Overthrown and deposed in 1974 by the Ethiopian revolution, he was killed the following year in circumstances that remain obscure.
