A japanese rectangular wooden carved" rooster and weasel" pa - Lot 200
A japanese rectangular wooden carved" rooster and weasel" panel. A rectangular wooden tray with an intricate carved and painted design. The artwork depicts a rooster and a weasel, both rendered with fine details and naturalistic colors. The rooster has vibrant golden-brown feathers and a red comb, appearing alert and possibly in a defensive stance. The weasel, positioned on the right side, has an elongated body and is depicted in motion, as if approaching the rooster. The combination of a rooster and a weasel is a common theme in traditional east asian art, often symbolizing vigilance, cunning, or an allegory of a struggle between different forces. The tray itself has a dark wooden surface with visible grain, giving it a rustic and antique feel. The carved figures appear to be inlaid or raised slightly, adding depth to the composition. 19/20th Century. H : 32 cm, W : 60 cm.
