NKUTU A ZOWA [Matadi (DRC), 1939-2006] (Untitled) Seated men Mixed media on flour sack. 59 x 30 cm. Signed and dated 1987 lower right. Nkutu a Zowa, born November 8, 1939 in Matadi, studied at the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts. After teaching drawing from 1964 to 1968, he has devoted himself entirely to painting since 1969. His work, characterized by original lines, colors and shapes, expresses deep emotions with a minimum of visual elements. He puts forward two opposing tendencies: one explores inner expression, while the other focuses on outer forms. His themes are predominantly human, with a marked presence of femininity.
