Jean-Claude Lofenia [Kinshasa (DRC), 1984, lives & works in - Lot 98
Jean-Claude Lofenia [Kinshasa (DRC), 1984, lives & works in Indianapolis (USA)] Maman africaine. Acrylic on canvas. 82 x 76 cm. Signed and dated 2023 lower right. Slight loss lower right. Jean-Claude Lofenia comes from a non-artistic family and began drawing at the age of eight, first as a game, later creating sketches and comic strips. He trained in the atelier of Chéri Chérin, where he developed his talent and technique. His style bridges traditional Congolese popular art and a contemporary spirit. Lofenia describes himself as an 'incarnation of the future', seeking to anticipate and convey messages of hope through vivid colours and dynamic forms. He is now a prominent figure in the contemporary Congolese art scene, exhibiting in Africa, Europe, and the USA.
