Silhouette de femme
Sculpture of welded metal cannon casings. 61 x 32x 15 cm.
Freddy Tsimba is a renowned Congolese sculptor whose artistic practice is based on the transformation of salvaged materials, including bullet casings, machetes and everyday metal objects, into expressive sculptural forms. Trained at the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts, he develops a visual language that questions violence, memory and human vulnerability, while regularly invoking the figure of the woman as a symbol of continuity and resilience. Through the reuse of objects marked by conflict, Tsimba articulates a critical reflection on the socio-political realities of the Democratic Republic of Congo, converting instruments of destruction into sites of meaning and testimony. His work has been shown in major institutions in Africa, Europe and the United States, confirming his position as a major figure in contemporary African art.
