Note: Professor Gauquié, Grand Prix d'Excellence from the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels, was a colleague of Laurent Moonens at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Elisabethville, where he taught architectural drawing. An Africanist painter, he combined rigorous construction with artistic sensitivity. In the course of his career, he had the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with several Congolese artists, including Mode Muntu.
