Thomas TJAPALJARRI (c.1964) - Lot 252
Thomas TJAPALJARRI (c.1964) Tingari Story. Oil on canvas. 150 x 90 cm. Certificate. The Tingari Story: At the time of creation, the Tingari ancestors gathered at various sites for initiation ceremonies. They traveled throughout the country, performing rituals at specific sites that shaped the natural features of the landscape. Creation stories and rituals are still represented in song cycles, paintings and ceremonies, and form part of the ongoing teaching passed on to the next generation. In the painting Tingari Cycle, the artist represents the song cycle associated with his many dream sites and the locations of important natural sites in the Gibson Desert.
