MARIE JOSEPHE Oliviers - Lot 337
MARIE JOSEPHE Oliviers
A windmill between Brugge and the North Sea, Marie Josèphe Olivier, a Louvain native by adoption, sets up her easel at the foot of the 15th-century town hall with its coat of arms. And from there she radiates, from the library to the beguinage, from the banks of the Dyle to the canals, in the shade of the belfries or under the bridges, in search of some problematic windmill between Bruges and the North Sea. Her painting is firm and vigorous, her paste rich and generous, her landscapes inspired. She also excels in portraits and still lifes. She loves grand perspectives and interior journeys, qư'which she now pursues in discreet retirement. Oil on canvas. 49.5 x 60 cm. Explanatory document on the artist.
