George MINNE (1866-1941) - Lot 233
George MINNE (1866-1941) Female torso, bronze, signed, +- 33 cm. Note: George Minne was a major Belgian sculptor of the Symbolist movement. Trained in Ghent, then active in Brussels, from the end of the 19th century he developed a refined sculptural language, focused on inner expression rather than realism. His work follows in the wake of Symbolism and dialogues with the contemporary research of Auguste Rodin, while its formal simplification heralds certain trends in modern sculpture. His interiorized sensibility and synthetic treatment of the body are also echoed in the works of Constantin Meunier and, later, Aristide Maillol.
