A rare Chinese "figure" ink painting, by Feng Ji (冯箕) - Lot 289
A rare Chinese "figure" ink painting, by Feng Ji (冯箕)
The work depicts a scholar meditating by a willow-lined bank, attended by two ladies—a typical motif of literati leisure from the Qing Dynasty—rendered with delicate brushwork and restrained coloring. It bears a red seal reading “Seal of Feng Ji’s Paintings.” A label on the backing board identifies it as a figure scroll by Feng Ji of the Qing Dynasty. Feng Ji, whose artistic name was Qixia, was a native of Qiantang and specialized in figure and beauty paintings. The painting bears the inscription “Painted by the West Lake Qixia Guest.”
Early 19th century, L: 190 x 63 cm. Good condition.
