Mustapha BOUJEMAOUI (1952) Painting and writing on papyrus, signed and dated "97" in the lower right corner, 42 x 35 cm. Note: Born in 1952 in Ahfir, Mustapha Boujemaoui studied at the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan (1969–1972), then in Brussels and Paris. Upon returning to Morocco in 1982, he taught visual arts in Oujda, then in Rabat, at several institutions including the National School of Architecture. A painter and researcher, he is one of the few Moroccan artists to have successfully transitioned from painting to installation art. His work, built around transparency and repetition, initially explores travel and the passage of time, before branching out to a wide variety of media and materials. A recipient of the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts in 1995, he has exhibited in about ten countries (Belgium, France, Spain, Egypt, Germany, Jordan, Great Britain, etc.) and is represented in prestigious Moroccan collections, including those of the Ministry of Culture, the ONA Foundation, and the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. He currently lives and works in Rabat.
