Marie Josephe OLIVIERS - Lot 276
Marie Josephe OLIVIERS Windmill between Bruges and the North Sea, oil on canvas, signed lower left, 49.5 x 60 cm. Note: Marie Josèphe Olivier, a resident of Leuven by choice, sets up her easel at the foot of the 15th-century town hall, adorned with a coat of arms. And from there she radiates her art—from the library to the Beguinage, from the banks of the Dyle to the canal shores, in the shadow of the belfries or beneath the bridges—in search of some intriguing windmill between Bruges and the North Sea. Her painting is firm and vigorous, her impasto rich and generous, her landscapes inspired. She also excels at portraits and still lifes. She loves sweeping vistas and inner journeys, which she is now pursuing in a quiet retreat. An explanatory document about the artist is included.
