Christ is depicted seated facing the viewer on an architectural throne with small columns and a canopy, his feet resting on an oval cushion. In his left hand, he holds an open Gospel written in Church Slavonic; his right hand, raised before his chest, holds a slender attribute (a reed pen?). A cruciferous nimbus bearing the letters ОѠН, the monograms IC XC in red medallions, and a title in cinnabar in the upper arched cartouche. The face has a dark complexion accented by linear white highlights. The background and the throne are adorned with a rich embossed and engraved design on the gilded ground, enhanced by painted roses; a frieze of wolf’s teeth and corner quarters.
