Jan Frans DE BOEVER (1872–1949) - Lot 62
Jan Frans DE BOEVER (1872–1949) Untitled (Symbolist Landscape), oil on cardboard, signed lower right and on the cardboard, 9 x 14 cm Note: Jean François De Boever (Ghent, 1872–1949), a Belgian painter trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent under Louis Tytgadt. Initially a portraitist of the bourgeoisie and the nobility, he began developing a Symbolist and Decadent style in 1909, blending female figures, eroticism, and macabre and fantastical visions. Inspired by literature, music, and mythology, he created, notably between 1914 and 1924, a major series of 157 gouaches illustrating Baudelaire’s *Les Fleurs du mal*, considered one of the most significant bodies of work in his oeuvre.
