Robert CROMMELYNCK (1895–1968) - Lot 114
Robert CROMMELYNCK (1895–1968) Tuscany, 1957. Oil on canvas. Signed “R. Crommelynck,” inscribed “Tuscany,” and dated “57” in the lower right corner. 70 x 100 cm. Exhibition / Bibliography: Robert Crommelynck 1895–1968, retrospective exhibition held in Liège at the Musée de l’Art wallon, Salle Saint-Georges, from September 15 to October 29, 1995; the work is listed and reproduced in the exhibition catalog, p. 98. Note: An avid traveler, Robert Crommelynck drew much of his inspiration from the landscapes he encountered during his stays abroad. Painted in Tuscany in 1957, this large-format composition exemplifies his mature style. Through a broad and uncluttered composition, Crommelynck contrasts the cultivated fields in the foreground with the light-colored hills that frame the horizon, using a palette dominated by ochres, yellows, and greens.
