Oscar NEMON (1906–1985) - Lot 117
Oscar NEMON (1906–1985) Portrait of Paul-Henri Spaak (1899–1972), circa 1941. Large plaster bust, modeled and sculpted. Incised signature “NEMON” on the side of the base; signature partially erased. Height: approx. 42 cm. Note: This portrait is based on the model of Paul-Henri Spaak created by Oscar Nemon in 1941. A bronze cast is held at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels, inv. 9988, donated by Mrs. Paul-Henri Spaak in 1982. Another plaster copy of the same model, signed “NEMON” and of similar dimensions—45 × 30 × 35 cm—is also documented. Oscar Nemon ranks among the leading portraitists of major political figures of the 20th century. In particular, he created several portraits and busts of Winston Churchill—an iconic subject in his body of work—as well as numerous figures from the European political, diplomatic, and institutional spheres.
