Neolithic-style Chinese jade ring bracelets - Lot 215
Neolithic-style Chinese jade ring bracelets With a domed shape and thick walls, these two bracelets feature a stone heavily altered by calcification; it is cream-white in color, crisscrossed with cracks, and marked with patches of earthy patina. One of the bracelets has a small trace of rust on the edge. 6.5 x 3.3 cm. This type of object may have been part of a ritual adornment associated with dignitaries of prehistoric China. The Chinese Neolithic period, which spans approximately from the 7th to the 2nd millennium BCE, is characterized by the development of agriculture, the settlement of populations, the production of pottery, and the remarkable rise of jade culture. Jade objects, particularly ornaments and ritual objects, played an important role in Neolithic societies and appear to have been associated with social status and ceremonial practices.
