BELGIUM AND EUROPE, Collection of diplomatic, consular, admi - Lot 141
BELGIUM AND EUROPE, Collection of diplomatic, consular, administrative, and private seals. 19th century An interesting set of about twenty seal impressions in red, brown, and black wax, mounted on an antique sheet and accompanied by handwritten identifications in ink. The collection notably includes seals from Belgian legations and consulates in London, Rome, Vienna, The Hague, Constantinople, Copenhagen, and Bucharest, as well as from the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chamber of Representatives, and the Military Intendance of Brabant. The collection also includes impressions from foreign diplomatic missions in Brussels, notably those of the Legation of the King of Bavaria and the French Legation, the latter adorned with the imperial eagle. A few private heraldic seals round out the collection, including one bearing the handwritten annotation “de Rothschild,” an attribution that remains to be confirmed. This collection bears witness to diplomatic relations and European political and administrative activity in the 19th century. The sheet is numbered 7 in the upper right corner. Presented under glass in a molded wooden frame. Dimensions: 35 × 28 cm.
