Marriage License, Bohemia, 1812 - Lot 147
Marriage License, Bohemia, 1812 Handwritten document in brown ink on laid paper, issued by the Oberamt of the lordship of [S/T]einitzl (Herrschaft), granting a subject of the estate, residing at conscription number 9, permission to marry Katharina, the legitimate daughter of Johann [...], of the village of Ostrowitz (conscription number 17), following the publication of three banns. Dated at the Oberamt, [23] January 1812, signed by the Oberamtmann and sealed with an oval under-paper seal. At the top, two Austrian revenue stamps printed in black ink (a diamond with fleurons surmounted by a “P” and a circular stamp with an inscription). At the bottom, a registration note dated January 29 [...] 1812, signed. On the reverse, an endorsement by the parish priest of Ostrowitz, “Steinbach, Pfarrer,” dated January 23, 1812. Evidence of the feudal system in Bohemia in the early 19th century, where the marriage of subjects remained subject to the lord’s consent. .
